Gender Confusion?!

If there was a simple way I could describe my life it'd be simple. I hate it. I hate everyone in my life and I hate everything that happens. You ask why I don't just commit suicide? There's actually a funny story behind that, and it all started with a promise. That promise is the only promise I have ever made and it was to a girl I haven't seen in ten years.

Ten Years ago.

"Shiori don't leave you're my bestest friend!" I cried kicking and screaming as the woman I referred to as 'Mom' held me back. Tears formed in my eyes as I watched Shiori walking away with her Father. They headed to the car with their belongings inside and it was obvious she was moving. Shiori stopped and ran back to me embracing me in a hug and she kissed me on the cheek. "I'll be in America for a while but when I come back I'll be your bride! Will you be my Husband?" Shiori was crying too as she gave me a keychain that was her favorite possession and made. The keychain was a simple clear marble on a chain. She took it everywhere except to America. "I…I promise I'll be here for when y-you…Come back!" I said through choked sobs. The last thing I saw was her back as she left me forever…

Present Day.

The alarm clock buzzed as Hayashi woke up for school. As he looked at it the time said it was 7:15am. "Well it looks like I'm late though I don't really give a damn." He said as he got out of bed and walked to the bathroom. He went to the bathroom and got ready slowly. On his way to school he was lost in his thoughts.

(This next Paragraph is Narrative)

My name is Hayashi Junko. I'm just a boring, not-so-popular High Schooler. Recently my Parents passed away in a unfortunate accident and left me a small fortune they had saved up through being Actors in plays across Japan. The reason you see me this gloomy is because ever since Grade School I have always been the target of bullying and I haven't had a friend since I was Six years old. All my Family members are dead and I'm truly alone in this world…

(Back into the Story)

As Hayashi walked to school other students laughed and even pointed at him. He was the outcast at his school. Having been born and named Hayashi meant for him to be made fun of considering his name meant Early Death on top of Obedient Child, which the other children told him quite often to just roll over and die. Hayashi quickened his pace as he headed for the school gates. "Why don't you just go die?" A snobby girl even younger than him said as he passed the school gates. "Hey it's that freak with glasses!" A boy who was already in his gym outfit said as he kicked a soccer ball at Hayashi hitting him in the face and cracking his glasses. "Why do you always make fun of me?!" He screamed now upset that he had dirt on his face and his glasses had been broken. Today wasn't his day as he didn't get to eat breakfast not because he was late but because he was leaving school early for a health exam. The papers and books in his bag had dropped all over the ground. The other students left him alone as they left for their classes when the School Bell rang. In silence he picked up his things and hobbled to class.

On his way to class Hayashi thought to himself "What makes them so high and mighty to always treat me like this?" Some tears fell from his eyes and down his cheeks as he stood in front of his homerooms door for a few moments. After getting himself together he wiped his face and opened the door. When he stepped foot inside his class everyone was silent until his Homeroom Teacher Mrs. Shizuki spoke up "Hayashi why are you late to my class?" She demanded in a stern tone. "I…Um..." Hayashi stuttered not sure of how to respond as he looked at the students who gave him looks of hatred. "Speak up now." Mrs. Shizuki's tone hardened as she stared at him.  "I woke up late!" Hayashi half shouted as he looked at his own feet. "Get to your desk and stop interrupting my class. When school is over report back here for detention." Hayashi almost smiled because he'd be skipping at lunch for his health exam but he remained looking at the ground as he trudged to his seat. "As I was saying before…" Her words faded out as Hayashi became lost in his thoughts. When he looked up the students were leaving and the lunch bell was ringing. Hayashi grabbed his bag and left for the Hospital.

"Ah Hayashi good to see you again. I'm very sorry to hear about your parents and I wish you my best…" Doctor Kiske said with a saddened face. He had been a friend of his Fathers and showed up at their funeral. Since then this was the first he had seen of him in the last month. "We got your X-Rays from the lab back some time ago but I haven't checked them yet because of what had happened. Now let's see here…" Doctor Kiske opened up the folder and looked the file up and down. His expression went from normal to worried and concerned. Within moments the good Doctor stepped out of the room in a hurry and and left Hayashi there for ten minutes. He could hear the Doctor in the hallways shouting "Are you sure these are right? This…This is unfortunate…" Doctor Kiske returned in the room and sat down on a chair and shook his head a dozen times. "What is it? Is something wrong?!" Doctor Kiske sighed as he looked Hayashi in the eyes. "It seems in your…lower regions some abnormal growth that could turn cancerous has erupted and is eating away at you. We need to operate soon or it may turn into Penile Cancer…" Doctor Kiske looked worried at the boy. Hayashi wasn't sure of how to react but he had questions "Uh…When you say lower…You don't mean my-"  Hayashi was cut off by him. "-The one place you really don't want this to occur…" Hayashi just looked down at his knees as he was sitting on the patient bed. First his Parents and now this?

The next few hours went by in a flash. It had been Doctors and Surgeons coming into the room and asking him questions he didn't know the answers too. They asked about his Family medical history but his only Relatives his knew were his Mother and Father, as far as he knew he never had Grandparents, Aunts or even Uncles. Doctor Kiske finally returned in the room. "Alright Hayashi we finally have all the paperwork you signed sorted out. Tonight we'll get you ready and by tomorrow morning hopefully you'll be cancer free!" Doctor Kiske said trying to lighten the mood but it failed. Hayashi walked around the Hospital for a bit and got a soda from a machine and drank it on a bench. There wasn't much to do but wait. "For this operation they're planning on knocking me out and operating right?" Hayashi thought to himself as he finished his soda and returned to him room. "I hate my life and everything is unfair…I wish I had a different life!" Hayashi screamed loudly. The Doctor came into his room and told him that they were ready for the Operation. Hayashi followed him as they lead him into a Surgery Room and laid him on a Operating Table and put a mask on him. "Don't worry everything will be over soon…" A Nurse with a smile hidden behind her mask said to him as his eyes began rolling into unconsciousness. Before he was under he saw the Doctor begin twitting and pass out. "Somebody get a medical team in here! The Doct-" That was the last thing he saw until everything went black.

Hayashi's eyes began to open slightly as the sun filled his eyes and he woke up. "Hey there Champ…" A new Doctor said who was sitting next to him smiling with concern. "Wa-…Was the Operation a success?" Hayashi asked still half asleep but curious. "Well there is a few problems we had…But you could say it was and wasn't…" Hayashi was now fully awake as he sat up and looked at the Doctor who was talking to him. "How about we get you some icecream!" The Doctor said motioning a Nurse who was prepared brought over a bowl of icecream. "Thanks but I didn't have my tonsils removed. Now what happened to my Doctor?" Hayashi demanded. "Well you see…Doctor Kiske had a sudden Heart Attack and was in critical condition for 3 months. He finally got released an-" The new Doctor was cut off by Hayashi "Wait 3 months? I-I-I just had this Operation!!!" Hayashi stood up now and looked around the room for the location of the bathroom. "When we put you under your body didn't respond well to the drugs and you've been in a coma for 3 months Hayashi! Wait don't go in there!" Hayashi didn't let him stop him as he opened the door to the bathroom and turned on the light as he was about to examine his privates something caught his attention in the mirror. His hair had grown out longer and was past his shoulders. As he continued to panic he looked down as he opened his Hospital Pajamas and examined himself. His face turned red as he realized he was missing something. "They brought in another Surgeon who misread your files…And they accidentally removed your…" A Scream from Hayashi cut him off "Ahhhh!!!! Wha...What...What the hell?!" Hayashi ran out of the room and down the hallway. Everything looked a little different. He saw a digital clock that showed the time and date. "This…This has to be some kind of sick joke…" Hayashi was beginning to feel sick as he found himself at the soda machine. He punched it in frustration and it dropped a Soda. He hesitantly picked it up as if the tension he was creating would cause it to explode.

Hayashi sat on the bench half blind without his glasses as he stared at the Soda Can in his hands. "Why does everything bad always happen to me?" He said as he dropped his head and began to cry. After a few moments to himself a pretty girl with a crutch sat next to him and looked concerned. "Why are you crying is something wrong?" She looked at Hayashi wondering if he was alright. "No…It's just that…" He wasn't sure how to finish that sentence but the girl spoke up first. "I don't know why your sad but your awfully pretty and tears don't suit you." She said as she used her finger to wipe away his tears. "I have to get back to my room now but my name is Ayumi." The cheerful girl smiled as she left without even letting him introduce himself. For some reason she brightened his mood a little but he was still not sure of what to do as he threw his soda away and walked back to his room.
This is the Rough Draftish Version of Gender Confusion. I'm actually going to aim for publication of this Story at Yen Press. I think it has some originality and is better than some of the stories they publish.
